The Toxic Relationship Between Ego And Entrepreneurship

The entrepreneurship journey is a lot like boxing.

Boxing or any other martial arts growth often takes many failures, after failure, after failure (for an unknown and often discouraging amount of time) to eventually turn a corner.

Sometimes you may just fail 5 times, or 10, or maybe even 100 before you feel as if you have turned a corner…but that’s all ok. Every time you try then fail, you learn. (You do not lose). This is where a specific growth mindset becomes paramount for your entrepreneurial journey.

On the other hand, if you are driven by a fixed non-growth ego mindset with a thirst for appearance/reputation/image/fragility aka. external validation from others; then failing over and over again will be next to impossible for you to accomplish.

A fixed ego/external validation mindset is an outright enemy to an emerging entrepreneur. This mentality is often based out of either fear or insecurity. You therefore have already decided to allow people and/or environments to disrupt you – and that is bad.

Fear and insecurity do not help any serious entrepreneur engage in anything. As an entrepreneur it’s your calling to embrace a sense of personal power. The idea is to limit or completely evolve out of your ego; which then helps reduce your levels of fear or insecurity.

It’s up to you to form a plan now, but just because you have a plan, doesn’t make this process easier. You cannot let up. As Mike Tyson once said, everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth.

You have to be able to get hit, fall, get back up and keep trying without allowing a loss in enthusiasm. Then one day (after several crash courses in learning) you’ll have gained three personal treasures (subjective to you) once you flatten out your failure curve/overcome ego.

1). You will be resilient (win or lose – your confidence cannot be shaken because you are adaptable).

2). You will have found your success.

3). You will have ascended ego (The confidence found after shedding ego is pure gold).

The idea?

Always stay faithful. Never stop trying. Never quit on your visions. Never stop experimenting. Never be afraid to fail. Push. Do not look back.

If you have been flirting with entrepreneurship, then I would encourage you to go all in. Due to recent political and health related events, now is an ideal time to adapt to the times by carving your own entrepreneurial journey.

Lastly, you will have to make the decision to actually execute the take a leap of faith like a skydiver.
